Such a vivid essay. These moments happen so fast, especially in Alaska on slippery roads. My dad also would have saved the day. He probably would have come all the way from Connecticut to get me out of a sticky situation. I remember him driving me, my mom, and my then boyfriend home from a concert. One hour of white knuckle driving in a blizzard. I never doubted that we’d make it, but he told me later that he was more scared in that hour than he’d been in a long time.

This made me a little teary thinking about how my dad would have done the same thing. Dads are literally the best. Glad all turned out well.

During a school trip to Denali that happened with a 15 passenger van full of high schoolers. We all piled out of the van and pushed at various ends to keep it in the middle of the road and ‘steered’ it back down that way. Good times, good times.

Wow Julia. Great tale, and so glad it came out okay. The lessons, too, are timeless. Thanks for sharing. I spent many weekend days driving up and down that road to ski when I was a teen, and luckily I did not have that happen. Of course it didn’t rain in January either, then.
