Thoughts about Halibut Olympia, old & new. There is another halibut recipe that we made on the fishing boat…it is called “Middleton Island Turkey.” Use one tray that fits in your oil stove’s tiny oven. Two pieces of halibut, same size. Lay down the first piece, add packaged stuffing , add the second piece on top. Cover with one can of cream of mushroom soup that has been diluted per soup can instructions, sour cream, and grated cheese. Add a foil tent over the top and put in the oven. It is ready to eat after about 45 minutes…time enough to finish icing down the last of the catch, hosing off the deck and raingear, and coming into the cabin to eat. The skipper usually prepares this while the crew is cleaning up on deck. We were 60 miles offshore, and drifted while catching a few hours of sleep. There were never leftovers. Easily adaptable for fishing inside waters with the luxury of an anchorage. Two or three people on board? Just use one big slab of fish and pile everything on top, adding the stuffing on top first.

My late father, Col. John Walton, Sr, was President of the Alaska Press Club in the mid-60’s. Prior to that, he was the Editor of one of the “Alaska Blue Books” the Club published yearly. He was active with the club throughout his 3 years assigned as a Public Affairs officer at Elmendorf AFB, and both spoke fondly of his time with the Club.

Many years ago, I contacted the Press Club and was advised at that time they did not have a complete collection of the early Blue Books. I was wondering is someone in leadership could contact me to see if the Blue Book he editor of in 1964 is currently in your collection. If not, we may be able to arrange to donate one to the Club if it is needed.

If you could put me in touch with the appropriate person to discuss this further, I would appreciate it.
