It is tradition that my Aunt Barbara, who works as a nurse at Providence hospital, has Thanksgiving before Thanksgiving at her house sometime in November. It is a very elaborate affair. This year she had 30 people over to the O’Malley House at 10th and Cordova. We were lucky enough to be invited. Here’s a little glimpse of what it was like…
Front door of the O’Malley House, where my people have lived for almost 70 years.
Aunt Barbara lives there now.
with Aunt Molly (This is their communion picture)
Aunt Barbara loves a dinner party
Almost as much as she loves fishing
And taking pictures. (She always sends you the prints in the mail.)
There isn’t enough room on the fridge for all the pictures
This is the corkboard in the kitchen. Just because.
Thirty people came this year. There were two turkeys
And crock pot gravy
This vat of mashed potatoes
Brussel sprouts.
Cheese on fancy toothpicks
Salad with pomegranate
So much pie.
Also Peanuts holiday cartoons, maybe on VHS.
Here is my dad saying grace
Mo (left) lives at the O’Malley House too. She and Barbara got their hair done for the event. They look great.
Here is a delicious plate of food under the dim candlelight
(My son, though, ate only goldfish).
There is Barbara with Neri. She says she feels like a grandmother.
So many dishes.
